IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT

Why the constant “improvement” of products ? If the application or device works

why change it? Is it to meet or beat competition? Or the sense of doing something for it’s own sake?

Are we against progress? Defenders of the status- quo? Wear High button shoes?

No, no and no.

If we were, we would still prefer to hand crank our automobile sans self starters;

Stick shift our transmissions, have non-hydraulic brakes, drive without heaters and air conditioners, power steering, electric windows, power brakes, etc.

But these are REAL improvements not just changes or dressed- up new models.

What about the easy opening pull tab cans that will break your fingernail or finger?

The “squeezable jelly bottle; the upside down catsup bottle or the old favorite Spam can with the little key that never works.

The computer software industry are among the worst offenders. Yes the devices today are faster and more powerful, BUT they design in obsolescence, so yesterday’s software won’t work anymore with today’s operating system. More of the throwaway, get a new one culture.

Apple has a sure winner with the OS10.5 Unix based software perfectly matched with the new intel machines. They feel compelled; however, to make changes, so now we have OS10.6 . Will it work without losing capability with old files and programs?

It’s doubtful, based upon their recent “improved” Safari 4.0 or the fouled-up.mac program re-named “Mobileme”.

Ever hear of Microsoft’s Vista?

With Love and Kindness,

THE HATMAN
